MN pix: Castle Rock trees
Castle Rock is a wonderful rock formation just off I-90/94 south of Tomah in Wisconsin. (See my picture post from last year's trip for more about the place.) I took more pictures there this year, and for this post, I'm going to post a few pictures of the pine trees there.

This little pine tree, half dead but still reaching for the light, speaks of the tenacity of life.

LJ is still wedged, so I'll try putting the other pix in responses.

The growth of the new cones on this full-sized pine (growing on the level ground near the rock) caught my eye.

This pine seedling, poking out into the dark gap in the cliff face, evokes loneliness.

The texture of this decaying stump, on the lower part of the rock that you can walk around on, was fascinating.

Thanks for actually looking. You don't need to tell me my photos are great (though I don't mind hearing it) but it is nice to hear that people appreciate the effort it takes to post photos.

(I think I would've had the next installment up before now if LJ hadn't been messed up. I hope this ick is done; at least now I know that I can break a post that won't go through into pieces and get it through.)
