Yuck weather
It's hard to tell; we seem to have about 2-3" of snow so far, but it's falling hard and the wind is picking up enough that it's starting to drift.  It took me 50 minutes to make it home from the party in west Champaign.  I probably won't be able to make it to EFRC tomorrow, which makes me sad.  (Won't know for sure until the morning.  If it stops snowing and blowing early, they'll have the highways usable pretty fast.  But if it blows as much as forecast, I won't be able to get my car to the highway until the lane is plowed.)

I really fucking hate winter storms.

EDIT, 7:30 AM, 2007-12-16:

No new snow seems to be falling, but there seems to be 5-6" on the ground. Harder to tell than yesterday because the wind is bad. About 40 MPH, near-blizzard conditions -- the only sort of good news is tht it's out of the west rather than the north, which means the drifts across the lane are less bad than they could be.

I'll try to start shoveling my driveway shortly.

I drove to Peoria tonight on I-74. Not only were there cars off the road, there were cars going off the road as I was driving in next to them. Bonus: cars sitting around on the road, pointed the wrong direction. I stayed a way back behind other people and went their speed, about 35 mph. Long-distance driving can be done, but it's no fun. I sang the most irritating Christmas carols I could possibly think of, out loud, over and over again -- it was just that kind of night.

Not much off the road going east from Champaign around 10 last night, but the driving was about like that. The most angry-making scary menace was the semis zipping along at 20 MPH faster than the cars were going, burying cars in slush as they zoom past.
