Marriott to go smoke free - Phil's Rambling Rants
Marriott to go smoke free|
my guess is that some folks will no longer attend certain events - I can tell you that any convention trying to get Steven as a guest at a Marriott will be out of luck. I can understand all meeting rooms and such but I think making all guest rooms non smoking is going a bit to far

I'm ambivalent myself about not having any smoking guest rooms. On the one hand, people should have the right to smoke as long as they're not inflicting it on anyone else, and a guest room is a private space. But on the other hand, hotel employees do have to clean and service the guest rooms. Unlike being in a room where people are actively smoking, I don't think cleaning a room where people have smoked is something that OSHA should ban, but I do know several people who are severely enough allergic that they could not do that job, and I kind of like seeing a major company making their workplace available to people with that handicap (by voluntary choice rather than government mandate). A truly 100% smoke free hotel would be a real boon to those super-allergic people.
