Overachieving robin

I had a good walk this morning. For the first time, as far as I can recall, my brown thrasher actually perched out in the open, let me get fairly close to him, and stayed put so I could take pictures. I took pictures of a couple of chipmunks. At the beginning of my walk, I got a very brief glimpse of a rose-breasted grosbeak. At the end of the walk, as I was about to go back into the house, I heard a song I didn't know. Part of the song sounded very much like a robin, but this bird added extra phrases, with trills and twitters that no robin ever had. I went to see if I could find the bird, and saw the grosbeak again, this time in an oak tree on my property. I waited for a few minutes to see if I could get a picture and confirm that it was the grosbeak singing. While I was waiting, I saw and photographed a ruby-throated hummingbird in the berry patch. Then the grosbeak actually came out of the thick part of the oak tree and let me watch and photograph him.

I'm slow to pick up new birdsongs, because I don't recall the sounds well, but I think I made progress at actually learning the grosbeak's song. I'm sure I've heard it before; hopefully I'll remember what it is when I hear it again.

What's wrong with the world?

I have my own theory about the real reason behind just about everything that's wrong with the world. And I'm going to tell you about it sometime, but not today. Today, what I want is to get a good sample of what is wrong with the world, so that I can see how good a job my theory does of explaining it.

Got a moment? Post a list of some things that you think are wrong in the world. Not everything you think is wrong in the world. Not the top 5. Don't rank them, don't try to explain them or organize them, just name some things that are wrong.

I'm going to refine my theory by reading through the lists and seeing how good a job I can do of connecting each problem to my theory. At some point in the future when I'm ready to tell you about my theory, I'll post a selection of the more interesting or revealing explanations, but right now, it's just about making a big list of what's wrong.

If you feel like commenting about any of the problems in particular (or arguing that they're not actually problems), please do it in your own journal. This post is just about making a big list of problems.
