I've always enjoyed the Narnia books. I read them as a kid, several times as an adult including to our boys twice now. And I was raised an unbaptised nonChristian Unitarian and it never bothered me in the slightest that they have Christian overtones. Hey, Christ was probably a pretty decent guy I suspect so what the heck? Christ/Aslan... I'm open to meeting either of them myself. (sorry if that sounds flippant). Seriously I think they are quite well done. The thing about fighting you mentioned? That's one thing that *sort of* was actually more realistic in the movie. They showed them learning to use the weapons. Ok, yes, they wouldn't really learn enough that quickly but still...
I thought the movie was quite well done. I was pleased. I had seen the BBC version and really did not like it. This one seemed to me to keep the spirit and basic idea of the book and looked gorgeous and I thought the actors were quite good mostly.
And off topic but I just have to tell you! I don't know why but I had a funny dream with you and your mom in it! You were at a small (tiny) con being held in Vermont (as if!) and had planned to go to Shelburne museum Sunday after the con before driving home. Bbut it was almost closing time. SO we invited you to crash on our couches. In our incredibly tiny little house. Weird.
But hey - if you ever DO find yourself in VT when we're still here or during the spring/summer/fall when our camp is open - you are welcome! :-)
I'd love to visit VT. So many places, so little time.
