I'm glad you had a good time! InCon's been working pretty hard to make itself filk-friendly again and I think they're succeeding. And it's hard to go wrong when you have Barry and Juanita and Wulf as anchors... I'm bummed that I missed Wulf and Anne by not being there Saturday night, but thoroughly enjoyed the Friday filk.
I meant to mention, before I left Friday night, that one of the songs you did (I just remember it as "Green"... not sure what the real name is) is a really nice fit for your voice and I thought you did a wonderful job of presenting it. I've also really enjoyed a lot of the spoken word things that you've been doing lately too.
Sally and I survived the trip to Normal and back, but I'm still sleep deprived. I think prisons have better beds than the things they had in the dorm at ISU!
The "Green" song is "Dangerous Color" by Anne Passovoy. It bubbled out of the murky depths of my memory from 20 years earlier a few years ago, and when I sang it down at GaFilk it got a heartfelt "Cool!" from the_gwenzilliad
. Anything Harper approves of is a keeper, so I've continued to do it. The almost-whispered delivery and muffled strum are my interpretation; Anne sang it in a normal voice with her usual fingerpicked accompaniment. Thanks for the encouragement!
I wish you could have been there Saturday. Almost any filk needs more Seanan and Dave Carter.
Oh, and thanks to the founding fathers mistaken wording of what was supposed to prevent torture of prisoners and 200+ years of compounding by the courts, prisoners are usually treated better than college students -- so I don't doubt that they have better beds.
