Phil's Rambling Rants
Many years ago whenI was on my first bird banding expidition we were down around Stewart Valley in Southern Saskatchewan after golden eagles and prairie falcons. It was probably the last golden eagle nest I visited. It was getting on towards dusk and I was about halfway down the cliff face getting to the nest and a whole chorus of coyotes began whooping it up. It was quite a feeling getting into the nest and banding a fledgling eagle while listening to the coyotes having their choir practice in the valley below. Needless to say, experiences like that tend to stick with you for a while.
And my goodness, if the deet isn't helping then I will never complain about Winnipeg mosquitos again.
I don't know that the DEET wasn't helping -- I didn't do a controlled experiment -- but I was still getting chewed up badly even though I did put some on. I may not have effectively applied it to all the vulnerable places; I try to use a minimal amount of the stuff.
