Phil's Rambling Rants

I think it worked because of the cat's own personality. I don't remember the names at all, but I met a serval being walked on a leash in downtown Indianapolis some years back that may well have been Hush and his human. The owner did an excellent job of explaining how to approach the cat, but the cat himself clearly adored the interaction and attention. All a person had to do was stand still with a hand held horizontal; the serval was a self-petting cat. (Reminds me of my calico in that regard.) I don't recall the details, but the encounter itself is among my most treasured memories.

It certainly worked because of the cat's personality, and that was a most unusual personality. Servals are normally flightly and not comfortable with strangers. And a serval that's even the teeniest bit uncomfortable with its surroundings hisses in a way that makes people who only know about domestic cats take two hasty steps back.
It's pretty likely that you did meet Marvin and Hush.
