FNM: Standard again
Standard fired again at FNM. I played my Abzan deck again, with a few fiddles. Didn't go well.

2 Abzan Charm
1 Abzan Falconer
1 Ajani Steadfast
2 Anafenza, the Foremost
2 Bile Blight
4 Courser of Kruphix +1, too important to leave one out
0 Den Protector -1, hasn't worked for me
3 Dromoka's Command
1 Drown in Sorrow still think I want one main deck against the meta I see
1 Elspeth, Sun's Champion
1 Hero's Downfall
2 High Sentinels of Arashin
1 Ivorytusk Fortress
1 Last Breath
1 Murderous Cut
4 Siege Rhino still the star of the show
1 Sorin, Solemn Visitor
4 Sylvan Caryatid
1 Tasigur, the Golden Fang
1 Valorous Stance
1 Whip of Erebos
1 Wingmate Roc

2 Caves of Koilos
1 Evolving Wilds
3 Forest
1 Llanowar Wastes
2 Mana Confluence
2 Plains
2 Sandsteppe Citadel
2 Swamp
2 Temple of Malady
2 Temple of Plenty
2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
3 Windswept Heath

side:
1 Aerial Volley
2 Banishing Light
1 Bile Blight
2 Drown in Sorrow
0 End Hostilities, -1, got another Languish
1 Glare of Heresy
1 Hero's Downfall
1 Infinite Obliteration +1, seemed like it would be good in the mirror
3 Languish +2, now that I have them
1 Stain the Mind +1, thought this was a better shot against Rally than Tormod's Crypt
2 Thoughtseize -1, I almost never use 'em so I wanted the slot
0 Tragic Arrogance -1, for Languish
0 Whip of Erebos -1, didn't think I'd want it (and then I did)

Round 1, I faced Tom Trumpinsk with his G/W renown aggro deck. I want to try a deck like this after rotation, if (as I suspect) the mana isn't going to be good enough for me to stay with Abzan). Tom's build is too heavy on combat tricks and doesn't do well against me. I beat him in two games. Round 2, I faced Justin Kessel with Bant Heroic. Game 1, I drew my Whip of Erebos early, and was able to race for a long time, but then he got a Monastery Mentor out and buried me in tokens. I struggled with sideboarding, because I need sweepers against Mentor but I need spot removal against the huge favored hoplite. I had a chance in game 1 because I drew my one-of Whip, but I cut the second from my board. I ended up with a hand that didn't have enough answers, and he made his hoplites unblockable. Round 3, John-Samuel Fulghieri was running Blue/Red Thopters. I haven't played against it, though I've seen the deck list. Game 1, he played two Ghostfire Blades, Ensouled one of them, hit me with it twice, and then shrapnel blasted me. Then I had to double mull into a bad hand and got smashed. 1-2.

We also had afterdraft. My deck was pretty weak, but I played some pretty good games. I took a game against Justin Kessel's much better deck by holding up my Gods Willing until I could swing in with my Perilous Shadow for a ton. Game 2, he got one of his two copies of Diversionary Tactics and a bunch of creatures. I scooped. Then we ran out of time just before I lost. And I managed to outplay Tom again, winning through his much larger creatures with chump blockers and careful use of my removall.
